A while back, my whoel family went to a Farmstay to help my Dad celebrate his 60th birthday in style. Happy Birthday Dad!!
One of the little activities we did was go to a working dairy. As we were heading back to the carpark, we were shown to the sheds housing the new little calves that were being handraised. It was feeding time, so it was madness!
The feeding set up is basically a long shallow trough that hangs from the fence (so it's at the same height as mum would of been), and has long 'teats' protruding from it. The look a bit like dishglove fingers with holes in the end! Freshly taken milk is poured into it, the calves latch on and away they go.
I love this photo purely for J's expression! He reached out to pat the calf and it starting sucking his finger, and pretty soon had his whole hand in it's mouth. He was rapt!
