All of a sudden it seems by boys have learnt how to play together! As in they are actually enjoying each other's company when playing - much less of the previous norm which was lots of tears, tantrums and shouting.
They will disappear now for up to an hour at a time, usually outside if it isn't raining, and just have fun together. It's lovely to see, and listen to!
Being the eldest, J is of course the instigator, and having the wilder imagination of the two comes up with all sorts of games for them to play. Here are a couple of self invented games which are their current favs (which by the way are also rather amusing to listen to!)
1. Catching Monsters - now as all mums would know, you can't question the obvious logic that goes into inventing these games. Catching Monsters involves running around outside, waving plastic shovels in the air, all the while wearing their bike helmets (the helmets are apparently an integral part of the game)
2. Do You Like My Volcano Hat? - another clearly logical game. It involves stealing mum's Dolly Varden Cake Tin from the cupboard, putting it on your head, and running around the house until the other boy catches you. In a fit of hysteria you ask 'Do you like my volcano hat?' to which the other boy manages to squeal a 'yeeeeeeesssss!' through his laughing fit. Swap and repeat. Many, many times.
3. Truck Fight - This is pure boy's play! You and your brother stand facing each other about 20m apart on the brick paving. You bend and grab your large Tonka truck with both hands, and run as fast as you can towards him, just as he runs as fast as he can towards you. The aim of the game is to crash the trucks together as hard as you can, of course. Bashing heads together earns extra points, apparently. I can only assume chipping teeth on your truck would, also.
